FIVE QUESTIONS WITH...JEFF LEACH
Jeff Leach travels to the Manchester Comedy Festival with his show, Jeff Leach On Society with special guests, and we caught up with him to ask five questions...
What is your show about?
The arc of the show navigates my weird, excessive and tainted personal life and the hilarious adventures it has seen me experience along the way. I aim to cultivate the habit of laughter amongst my audiences and what better way to do that than show people just how easy it is to laugh at yourself and look objectively at the highs and lows life throws at you? It’s story-telling meets laughter therapy and I am the self-deprecating plonker willing to undergo the process for your enjoyment.
What has been the highlight of your comedy career thus far?
Being the booker and the compere for the Oxjam Kilburn Comedy Festival this year has been amazing as I am putting my laughter-inducing abilities and business know-how to good use for a very worthwhile cause. Also watching ‘American: The Bill Hicks Story’ before performing at Branchage Fil Festival 2010 in Jersey and being so moved by this enigmatic power house of truth and comedic genius that I have truly embraced a fearlessness in my stand up.
Finish this sentence: "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit but would rather it be covered in tales of awkward sex-ploits, heartbreak, deviant adventures and suffering piles, then you'll like my show"
What will you do in the hour before your show?
A treacherous regime of deep lunging exercises and my homework.
Name 3 other comics you would recommend seeing.
Comedy greats must be Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor and Steve Martin. New talent would be my guest Danny Ward, Abandoman and Paul Sweeney.
Jeff Leach On Society is on at Opus on 21st October - buy tickets here.
